Program Description

Event Details

Our goal is to give new as well as experienced dancers the confidence, foundational methods and skill set to swing dance in any social environment. We will be instructing the class in a 4 count, single step swing style, helping students learn to lead and follow well and teaching a variety of simple and fun moves!

What to wear: You may wear whatever clothes you’re comfortable dancing in. If you’d like to dress up, go for it. If you’d like to dress down and wear sweats, that’s cool too! This will be a comfortable, family-friendly environment. Just remember, this is physical activity, so be prepared to sweat and wear clothing that you can move comfortably in. For shoes, we generally wear socks (great for spinning!), but you’re welcome to wear clean street shoes that haven’t been worn outdoors.

What to bring: Take along a learning spirit, a positive attitude and a refillable water bottle.

A minimum of ten people was needed for this class to happen, and this number has been reached. Snow Date, Thursday, March 10.

About the teachers: Eric Rowe graduated from Dordt College in 2017. He’s a juggler, engineer, and actor. Swing Dancing has been one of his favorite skills ever since he learned dancing with his mother in the kitchen when he was thirteen.

Courtney Johnson is a local professional photographer for Aesthetic Essence Photography. She has been dancing for eighteen years and swing dancing for six! She began at Robin’s School of Dance in the third grade, was Captain of her dance team at Western Christian and has never stopped dancing! She learned how to Swing Dance at the Dordt University Swing Dance Club.
