Program Description

Event Details

Iowa has some fabulous State Parks. See them for the first time or in a new way through the lens of Artist Naomi Friend's State Park Sticker project. Despite being known for corn and beans, Iowa is home to one of the most innovative grassroots style State Park Programs in the USA. Get on the art train and travel through five distinct geographic regions of Iowa. You will see behind-the-scenes photos and sketches that inspired the sticker art about the state parks in each region.

Naomi Friend is a practicing artist living just north of Ames, Iowa. She is a Sioux Center Native and is inspired by the prairies, forests, rivers, and native ecosystems of Iowa. She is a painter and mixed media artist and is working on a project to make stickers for every state park in Iowa. Stickers are available on Etsy and Redbubble, as well as in several retail locations around the state including the Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center in Sioux City.

Her paintings celebrate the wild places and creatures of Iowa, and gallery shows travel within Iowa and to solo and group shows out of the state. She explores themes of conservation and creation care, including both physical and spiritual implications. In the summer she owns and operates a cut flower farm, Friend's Flowers. She holds a BA from Dordt University and an MFA from Iowa State University.
