Event Details

The Paper Clip Project began 20 years ago when an 8th grade teacher from Whitwell, Tennessee wanted to teach her students about tolerance. They collected over six million paper clips to represent the six million Jews that perished during World War II. Lori Vicker's talk will include an overview of events leading up to Hitler's reign in Germany. She will share information about how the students were able to collect these paper clips and create a memorial in their town which is still drawing tourists to their community from all over the country. A very brief summary of related fiction and non-fiction will be discussed at the close of this talk. Anyone interested in this era of history will enjoy learning about this amazing project.

Lori is a retired reading specialist from Spirit Lake, Iowa who taught Children's and Adolescent Literature for Viterbo University. You will receive a hand-out of historical fiction and non-fiction books related to this topic.

This event is co-sponsored by the genealogy group. Refreshments will be served. Registration is requested but not required.
