Program Description

Event Details

This program will cover the most basic things you need to know to start a small home vegetable garden. Whether you plan to grow early season vegetables like lettuce, radishes or snow peas, or if you only want to grow tomatoes, in this class we will discuss where to plant, what plants are appropriate for your garden, how to prepare the garden space and when to plant each variety of vegetable. Seasoned gardeners will tell you that growing a successful garden starts with a good plan. Good planning begins with knowing the basics.

The Basics:

  1. How to choose the best garden location in your yard.
  2. How to choose the vegetables you want to grow in the space you have.
  3. How to prepare the garden space for planting vegetable seeds or transplanting seedlings.
  4. The importance of keeping a garden journal for planning next season’s garden.

Master gardener, Pat Kosters, will be the presenter for this program. Registration is not required but requested. Register through the Iowa State Extension office. https://go.iastate.edu/YZUZR1
